Gua Sha

15 minutes: $20

Gua Sha is a healing technique that has been commonly used throughout Asia for many years. Gua means to rub or friction. Sha is the term used to describe congestion of blood at the surface of the body. When friction is applied in repeated even strokes, the sha will be drawn to the surface of the skin.

Benefits of Gua Sha include: moving stuck blood, promoting normal circulation to the muscles, tissues, and organs directly beneath the surface treated, decreasing pain and stiffness and increasing mobility.

This service can be booked as an Add-On to a massage to allow extra time or when requested can be incorporated into a 60 or 90 minute massage.

Cupping

30 minutes: $55

Cupping, which dates to the early fourth century, is one of the oldest methods of treatment in Traditional Chinese Medicine. Massage cupping is performed by applying ‘reverse pressure’ to the body, via glass or plastic suction cups that are generally placed or massaged along problem areas, in the direction of natural lymphatic flow.

  • Sessions are typically 30 minutes in length, and can be integrated with traditional massage therapies.

Goals & Benefits

The technique namely focuses on reducing stagnation & restrictions in problem areas, by breaking down adhesions/knots, and by helping to increase fluid (i.e., blood & lymph) circulation.

  • Massage cupping helps to reduce the build-up of cellular waste, toxins, inflammation, & excess fluids by assisting in dragging them from deep within muscles/soft tissue, to the body’s surface, where they can be more efficiently disposed of, via the lymphatic system.

  • More specifically, the massage cupping technique assists in …

    • Clearing stagnation
    • Relieving inflammation
    • Draining/Moving fluids
    • Sedating the nervous system
    • Expelling congestion
    • Stretching muscle & connective tissues
    • Loosening adhesions & scar tissue
    • Nourishing blood supply to the skin
    • Realigns qi
    • Resolves obstruction, muscle soreness, and pain
